Detoxification is the process of removing toxic substances from the body. It’s usually short term and focuses on working on present symptoms and flushing out the drugs left in your body.
Substitution treatment (also known as opioid agonist treatment) is usually long term and focuses on maintaining sobriety. Effective treatment usually combines substitution medication with psychological help, for example, counselling.
