Your brain and stress response
Your brain is a very complex organ. It is responsible for everything from keeping you breathing, to forming memories, to experiencing different emotions.
While the brain is only 3 pounds in your head, it serves as the control center for everything you do.
One of the things your brain does is determine your response to stress. Your brain signals to release hormones, chemicals that travel in the bloodstream and act on other parts of your body.
In this section, we will review how your brain can be affected by trauma, and how this can help to explain some of the symptoms you may experience.
The goal of this section is to provide you with a physiological basis for some of the impacts you may have experienced following trauma.
