What is it and how does it differ from trauma?
You may have heard of Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) before as it relates to war veterans.
PTSD is a mental health condition that you can develop after going through or witnessing traumatic event(s).
Every individual responds to trauma differently. A person may be diagnosed with PTSD if these symptoms increase or continue to be severe and are very long-lasting.
What is the difference between PTSD and experiencing trauma?
It is important to note the difference between trauma and PTSD.
Not everyone who experiences trauma will develop PTSD. Many people experience symptoms of trauma after witnessing or experiencing something traumatic. For example, you may feel anxious, shaken up, or have trouble focusing at school or work. However, over time, and with support, these symptoms reduce over time.
With PTSD, you experience a range of symptoms that interfere with daily life after a traumatic experience.
