How to Decrease your Risk

There are different ways you can take steps towards your safety when using fentanyl. Here are some tips:

  • Ensure you regularly drink water to stay hydrated
  • Don’t use alone. If you feel like you can’t be with others while using, let your friends know when you’re taking the drug.
  • Avoid injection if you can.
  • Consider the dose you’re taking and be extremely careful with how much you’re taking.
  • Use a safe injection site.
  • Start with small doses.
  • Avoid mixing with alcohol and other drugs, as this significantly increases the associated harms and side effects.
  • Know how to recognize and respond to an overdose and carry naloxone.
  • Get your drugs tested.
