Impacts of Trauma

Additionally, experiencing a trauma can also reduce your:

  • Ability to cope with daily stressors
    • You may find it more difficult to go back into your ‘normal’ daily routine
  • Memory, attention and concentration
    • You may find that you struggle to concentrate on certain tasks and find it hard to focus
  • Control of expressing emotion
    • You may find that you experience outbursts of anger or feel more irritable

Experiencing a trauma can result in physiological and behavioral changes including:

  • Fatigue/exhaustion
    • You may feel more tired or exhausted
  • Changes to sleeping patterns
    • For example, you notice you are sleeping less or sleeping more
  • Changes to eating patterns
    • You may experience changes to appetite and be eating more or less
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Increased heart rate
  • Excessive sweating
