What is Risk Management?

Risk management in this module is an alternative to the term relapse. In general, relapse refers to a return to old problematic habits. However, we like the term risk management because it is more constructive, and we believe that the most important part of people’s journey into a new lifestyle is managing their risk of negative consequences from drug use.

It’s important to know and remember that these terms mean different things to different people. So it’s also important to define what risk management means to you.

What risk management means to you, is related to your personal goals. For some, going back to using any kind of drug is considered a risk, while for others, a risk is using more than a previously set amount. What may work for a friend might not be the best option for you, and this is important to remember when going through this module. You can also set goals directly on RAMP (LINK)!
